That said, here's the rest of this story
The Sinister Rise of a Demagogue
The whispers of unease had grown into a deafening roar as the specter of Donald Trump's return to power looms large over our nation. A convicted felon, a narcissist, and a man consumed by an insatiable thirst for power, Trump had once again captivated 51% of the MAGA faithful, leaving a sense of dread and trepidation in his wake for the other 48%.

Trump's rise to prominence in 2015 had been marked by a dangerous brand of rabble-rouser, drawing comparisons to figures from the past like Huey Long and Joseph McCarthy. But this time, the threat felt more noticeable, more imminent, as the former president's concerted efforts to overthrow the 2020 election had very nearly succeeded.
I see Trump as a genuine aberration, a man whose contempt for constitutional democracy made him a unique and dangerous threat to the nation. Trump's authoritarian ambitions will soon come to life again on Jan. 20, 2025.
As the United States stands on the precipice of a new era, we're witnessing the fragility of democracy being laid bare, and the future hangs in the balance. The tension between hope and fear, justice and injustice, grace and rage, would once again test the resolve of the American people, who now face the prospect of a leader who cares more for his glorification of his ego, than for the principles upon which our nation was built upon.
The American people have come together in the past to confront the forces of authoritarianism and intolerance. But in the face of Trump's resurgence, one has to wonder if the nation's appetite for democracy has grown too greedy, too easily have been swayed by the siren song of a dictator.
The Descent into Darkness: A Nation Betrayed
What was once unthinkable has come to pass. How did this happen? Some examples stem from various members of Congress, driven by their self-interests, who had refused to impeach Donald Trump, not once, but twice, paving the way for his unchecked rise to power. And as if that were not enough, six members of the Supreme Court had blessed his ascent, granting him immunity from any crimes committed while in office. In their evident wisdom they stated that as long as his actions were deemed "official acts", there was no reason to worry. With the Supreme Court’s action, they created the ultimate monster.

Yet, even with this extensive background, nothing could have prepared the American public for the stark reality that unfolded before their eyes - the United States had ushered in its first-ever dictator. This man had once been dismissed as a lunatic had now cemented his grip on the nation's heart. Who said it can't happen here…well, it just did.
The Looming Specter of a Unprecedented Threat
No figure in the nation's past had ever wielded such a formidable hold over the hearts and minds of so many as Donald Trump has.
The choice on November 5, 2024 before the nation was stark, a binary decision that would determine its future. A vote for Kamala Harris, was a vote for the preservation of democratic ethics, a commitment to the rule of law that would allow the American people to pursue lives of purpose and prosperity.
However, a vote for Donald Trump was a vote that would place those very ethics at risk, a decision that could potentially unravel the very fabric of the nation's democratic foundations. We now realize that the country stands at a precipice, teetering on the edge of an abyss that threatens to swallow everything in its path.
To ignore the threat, to dismiss the concerns as mere hyperbole, would be to invite the unthinkable, to open the door to a future shrouded in darkness and uncertainty.
A Teetering Tightrope: The Fragility of Democracy
The very foundations of American democracy hang by a thread. Forget this nonsense of Donald saying this will be a 'golden age' for America. For him, perhaps it is because it will not be you. Just look at the four years while he was in office, as that will be a glue of what’s to come again, but this time, the chaos will be amplified. For democracy, a fragile and delicate concept, its success depends on the people's ability to temper their own base desires and impulses.
But a chilling realization had dawned in the wake of Donald Trump's attempted 2021 coup. Nothing in the past decade suggested that a re-elected Trump would have any inclination to rein in his insatiable hunger for power. That his previous attempt to overthrow the democratic process had failed should not be cause for complacency. Instead, the very fact that an audacious assault on the constitutional order had been undertaken at all should serve as a clarion call, a warning that cannot be ignored.

To dismiss Trump's radical rhetoric or to disregard the concerns of those who had worked alongside him was to place one's faith in a man who had already demonstrated a singular disregard for the nation's well-being. Trump is and will be a figure consumed by his own ego, more devoted to pursuing power than preserving the democratic principles that had long defined the American experiment.
The Gathering Storm: A Crossroads for the American Experiment
The specter of a second Trump presidency looms like a dark cloud, an ominous warning of chaos and upheaval that threatens to engulf the nation.
On one side stood the alluring, yet treacherous, prospect of a Trump resurgence – a future where the fragile foundations of democracy would be shaken to their core like never before in our history. The very essence of the American experiment would be put to the test big time. It will come down to a fundamental clash between the rule of law and the siren song of authoritarianism.
When Trump returns to the White House in January as one of the most powerful presidents in history, he’ll be able to take advantage of no guardrails as was not the case in during his first presidency.
In stark contrast, the alternative – a Kamala Harris presidency – represented a return to the familiar rhythms of power. Though one might disagree with her politics, a President Harris would've governed within the tradition that had long encompassed both Democrats and Republicans, preserving the arena of democratic discourse.
The Echoes of Sacrifice: A Plea for the Soul of America
The history of United States reflects that we as a nation, did not fight and bleed and die so that an authoritarian showman-bully could turn their national project into his own personal kingdom. And let it be said that those men and women who died for our country were NOT suckers and losers. The very foundations of democracy will be threatened by the rise of a figure seeking to subvert the people's will for his narrow gains.

Just thinking about Trump, president-elect, coming back, runs a chill ran down my back. The vision of Trump, tucked away in the solitude of his White House bed, pouring over the pages of some storybook, a twisted vision of the future that he had deemed "Project 2025."
The Tug-of-War for the Soul of America
The very fabric of America has always been woven through the interplay of opposing forces – hope and fear, justice and injustice, grace and rage.
Whether the forces of good would prevail over the forces of darkness in the years ahead whether the nation will embrace the American experiment, will be a test for us all.
The nation now stands at a crossroads, its future uncertain, its soul hanging in the balance. The habits of heart and mind that had once sustained the country, will be tested, challenged by the rise of forces that seek to undermine the very foundations of democracy.
Notably, Trump can assert democratic legitimacy for what is quickly becoming one of the most contentious presidencies of the modern era, bolstered by his ability to grow his vote share across a range of demographic groups.
The Final Hour: A Reckoning for the American Dream
The United States stands at the edge a moment of reckoning that would determine its future, even its existence. The very heart of the American dream still lives, and the time has come for the people to rise up and reclaim their destiny.
The path forward will not be easy, and the struggle to bend the universe's arc toward justice would be fraught with peril and sacrifice. We know that the American people, forged in the crucible of adversity, have always risen to the occasion, their determination fueled by the promise of a brighter tomorrow. I believe this as a testament to the enduring strength and resilience of the human spirit.
What can we learn from this story? What's the takeaway?
So many people who voted for Donald Trump told me again and again that they felt the economy was much better when he was in office and they were sick of trying to make ends meet. As with the MAGA group, they have short memories. Much of the cause of inflation was due to outside forces such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and yet, they blamed the outgoing administration.

Voters were also deeply concerned about illegal immigration which had reached record levels under Biden. They usually didn't express racist views or believe that migrants were eating people's pets, as Trump and his supporters had claimed. They just wanted much stronger border enforcement. In the end, they just couldn't vote for Harris, who served as Biden's vice-president for four years. They believed it would be more of the same, and they wanted change.
Yes, the guardrails are gone and all sense of common sense. The United States is now Donald’s sandbox to do whatever he wants.
Well, there you go, my friends; that's life, I swear
